that's a pretty significant jump in version numbers, eh?  why didn't sun just go to 1.5?

1.3 -> 3
1.4 -> 4
1.5 -> 5

It was a marketing decision... and imo it's not that bad. They just removed the pointless leading number, which most non techy people would consider as important ("Yea it's uhm... one dot something" - "Right.").
