Compiling x64 (Windows, Linux)?

Hi all.

I just wondered if anyone has been successful in compiling the native libraries for x64?
I saw the Linux compile thread and noticed that it indicates that x64 is a target. Does it work?
On Windows, I remember Gustav did a successful x64 compile a year ago but not without some fiddling around. Has anyone tried it recently?
I used his binaries back then and noticed a significant performance gain from the 64 bit version of J2SE.
