using velocity can hang the app

When testing on a brand new Intel dev box with sigmatel hd audio drivers, if I set the velocity of the Listener to something with a scale over say 100 or so, it hangs the entire application.  Has anyone had a similar experience or any ideas as to why that might be happening?
