Ever consider trying to be part of the gamedev.net community?

The LWJGL community is big enough to have a dedicated forum on Gamedev... Just look at the Java forum, it's desertic... If you want to speak of LWJGL, you should go on the Java or Alternative libraries forum.

Just curious though, and this is an honest question, what would we have to gain from that?

more support, larger base.  i only heard of lwjgl through somebody on gamedev, and only because i was considering jogl.  i had no idea there were any alternatives to jogl and would never have found lwjgl if i hadn't heard it word-of-mouth.

gamedev.net is a well established community with a large number of users.  Many of those users are looking for cross-platformability, but seem to only find it using GLUT or SDL.

Many people on gamedev may not realize that what they're really looking for is LWJGL.

But since you guys seem pretty content with the size of your community already, maybe you it wouldn't benefit you so much... but i'm confident that it would benefit many programmers out there.

I have been on GameDev for 3 years.  Have you ever been in the Java forum?  While there are helpful users, you get a large number of trolls there too.  Don't get me wrong, I love GameDev, but it is not the place to try to find support for any kind of Java programming.  Those people looking at Glut and SDL will easily scoff at Java for reasons that have been ancient history for years, but you can't tell them that.  Also all the experts are here or on the Java Gaming Forums.  Adding a forum to GameDev will not get you better answers.

There is a certain amount of overlap of people, but gamedev.net is almost entirely C/C++ focused, even in the areas which should be mostly independant.

The majority of people actually using Java for games are either already here or at the javagaming.org forums.

Yeah, those at GameDev who are interested in Java need to be encouraged to join JGO instead.  There're too many misinformed users at GameDev to make any Java discussion end in anything but a flame-fest, so most of us just avoid the place.  I drop in every now and then to direct people to JGO, though! ;)

I used to drop in too but haven't bothered for a long time. Last time I visited the Java games section there was a big long thread about Java vs. C++ performance, so I just virtually "walked away" and will probably never go back.
