Im new with openAL

When it says 3D audio does that mean surround sound (5.1) or does it mean 3d like characteristics with a stereo output?

AFAIK, both actually - win32 is stereo only, but linux is configurable for 5.1 output

The Win32 OpenAL driver defaults to DirectSound3D, which I seem to recall will automatically figure out 5.1 surround if the DS3D drivers support it.
