I've installed Vista (Business, 32bit), LWJGL (RC1) and downloaded the latest drivers from NVidia (for 7800GT) A quick compare using my font project (it's in OpenGL Documention thread) suggests that Vista OpenGL performance is still severely crippled compared to Windows XP (Pro, 64 bit).

Window Mode: ~800 fps in Vista, ~1700 fps in XP
Full Screen Mode: ~600 fps in Vista, ~3000 fps in XP

The example application used is simple and the drivers are obviously not identical but this result doesn't look good. Anyone with similar results?

It looks like NVidia is aware of a performance issue in Vista: http://www.tweakup.dk/readmore/10039/

I just tried out the beta drivers 100.54.

Performance was identical until I played around in NVidia Control Panel. Enabling Threaded Optimization (on AMD X2) bumped Full Screen Mode performance to ~2500 fps in Vista, getting closer to the ~3000 fps in Windows XP. In the Control Panel this optimization was set to Auto before I changed it to On.

NVidia is writing that OpenGL performance in Vista is being improved at the moment.

slightly off-topic, but vista will give most developers serious headaches:

but, what the heck - decisions are made and all of us will pay (the) bill...
