Usage of non-power-of-two textures?

I understand that it is possible to use non-pot textures with OpenGL (and LWJGL). If someone would explain to me how this is done i'd be thankful. I've tried few things but without success. I'd really like to get this working so I could continue to develop my lwjgl game...  :(
