rendering in selection mode

HI! i'm having problems rendering while in selection mode.  Right now, all i'm trying to do is click on a triangle, and return a hit.  But so far, i can't even render the triangle.  It works fine in render mode.  But not in selection.  I don't fully understand how to do picking in lwjgl, so if anybody can help me with that too, that'd be awesome.
