hiring an LWJGL developer for simple prototype

I'm currently developing a game using Torque from GarageGames.com and it is becoming very frustrating.  I'm looking to evaluate a switch over to LWJGL maybe using some of the old Java Monkey Engine code base.

The trick is that I would need to develop a proof-of-concept prototype for just a couple of thousand $USD.

A search on rent-a-coder.com for LWJGL came up blank.  Is anyone in the LWJGL community interested in a project like this?

The game is very simple.  It involves a stage, some props, some actors, a fixed camera and light source, basic animation and sounds, and some creative interactive features.  It would be fun and good for anyone looking to get some paid game dev experience in LWJGL.

All advice and input is well appreciated.

Viva la LWJGL!

I'm curious, what was the frustration with Torque?

Also, what elements does the prototype need to be a success?  Ie. scene graph capabilities, scripting, multiple levels...?  Do you plan to develop your own game engine (based on JME)?

The big problem with Torque - the documentation is patchy, many of the tools are temperamental and incomplete, strange cross platform issues with DIFs (their proprietary binary space format), very poor lighting (everything has a gray blur), and more slightly irritating things.  As a producer my biggest problem is the slow pace of development compared to my experience with LWJGL and JME.

The prototype doesn't need anything that's not already available in JME.  It is very simple.  The plan is to eventually evolve JME into a scriptable engine.

tanukitzu,

I sent you a message (through this forum) with some ideas on this.  Let me know if you got it.

thanks.

Excellent portfolio!  I've emailed you at your private address.  Please post if you have not received it.

TGE may have many issues, but you have to ask yourself how long it would take to write an engine using JME that would include the same features as Torque. There is a tradeoff I believe.
