As some of you have noticed, the wiki died because SourceForge made some radical changes to their webspace. This forced the premature death of the wiki.
Though it did mean the death of some articles, I view this as a way to start a new proper wiki. The old one was full of unmanaged articles and had no dedicated people to maintain it. Additionally the old wiki had a lot of issues navigation wise and was a mess.
I therefore propose to start a new wiki, with some proper up to date content, with some dedicated people to maintain it.
In order for this to work, we will need at least 2-3 dedicated people to help out by managing the wiki - and ofcourse lots of content writers. By dedicated, i dont mean put in a lot of hours, but simply that you are around for more than 1 month and then disappearing into the void.
Content wise, we need to be much more strict quality wise - this means rejecting stuff if need be. We want quality rather than quantity!!
I have been looking at two new wiki's:
MediaWiki - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki
+ Most used wiki
+ Looks shit, but can be skinned
- Technically more complex to setup
- General purpose wiki
DokuWiki - http://wiki.splitbrain.org/wiki:dokuwiki
+ Wiki made for documentation
+ Looks great, can be skinned
+ Easy to setup
- Less users
I am leaning towards using DokuWiki, but I am largely undecided yet.
Please provide some input on this topic.
I'd be willing to lend a hand. I had a crack at using the old wiki but it was just too frustrating to use to add much to it (far too slow and flakey, and it never remembered my login details).
I have setup a wiki for internal testing - and I have gone with DokuWiki, it just seems so much better!! If you are interrested and comitted to helping out - please post a message to this thread.
Orangy Tang - I have added you as a user.
The Wiki is now open again.
Currently a small number of tutorials are available - and the only section that is editable by non-registered users is the faq.
If you want to help out - give me a shout
Well, that's a good news !
The new wiki is damn fast, very nice to look at, and there's already some interesting content. Having a better wiki will force users to use it ;)
Hi, guys
I don't quite know if this is the right place to post it but I guess this is kind of on topic.
So I downloaded the lwjgl library and I figured I'd take a look at the Wiki tutorials (which seem to be the only tuts available on lwjgl).
Then I tried out some of the sourcecode and realized it has typos.
I just checked http://lwjgl.org/wiki/doku.php/lwjgl/tutorials/display/basicdisplay this one out. It's got 2 time Dispaly instead of Display and once models instead of the previous defined modes.
I know the tutorial isn't necessarily for copy & paste purposes but I guess somebody should fix it nontheless.
fixed, and puzzled - I have some other wiki stuff to look at, so I might sift through it this weekend
sorry for spoiling your weekend for you.
Especially since I think the sources of the test are a good documentation for themselves because of the many comments.
Hi
I've noticed the wiki has a few tutorials but there isn't too much in terms of learning the basics. There is a link to the NeHe site which has some excellant tutorials but I've noticed there are no longer the lwjgl versions of the lessons.
I was going to offer to write some lessons equivilent to the ones up on the NeHe site but for lwjgl. Do you know if lwjgl are allowed to host NeHe equivilent lessons on thier website?
It would be nice put some more tutorials up on this website.
Added TGA texture loading.
http://lwjgl.org/wiki/doku.php/lwjgl/tutorials/textures/tga
For corrections or improvements let me know or edit yourself ;)
Next will be basic dds loading.
I know there were some tutorials posted in the forums. I ask the authors to repost the link or send me PM for adding their link into the wiki for easier access :)

@Matzon could we have the ability to add images to the wiki, allowing embedded external images should do. It would allow a number of LWJGL tutorials to be moved there once we have that feature.
Thanks
done
Sweet thanks! I too wanted this for the future...
For anyone that isn't familiar with MediaWiki, this is the URL:
http://lwjgl.org/wiki/index.php?title=Special:Upload (http://lwjgl.org/wiki/index.php?title=Special:Upload)
Currently, only admins can delete images and image revisions, so I couldn't delete the first version of my NetBeans1.png file.
At least the owner/uploader of the image should be able to modify/delete it. Or we only allow external image linking.
wiki just got hit by a spammer named Hearme, hope this doesn't become a common occurance.
I played a bit with the layout of our main page. Please judge the first try. It is the first idea i came up with. Long floating lists of content isn't that nice to read after all. So i put them a little more together.
We might need to define the maximum width of such layouts to provide a good usability :)
// edit: To give the source of the idea a home: http://wiki.delphigl.com/index.php/Hauptseite
Very neat and organized, but took them even more effort.

OMG what have you done, you've destroyed the beautiful wiki! (just kidding :))
It'll probably end up looking nicer then the old page and make better use of the space then the long page. However what does look odd is the 'Tests' heading, you should move that below the 'Tutorials' heading. Since the tutorial heading is expected to get longer its best it remains on its own with tutorials listed in two columns. Other then that nice job.
Yea ;) I'm still testing and reworking it while by spare time in the office *cough*
I took a look at the source of their wiki and the "test" is just a table. For the tutorial we should not display the whole list at all on the main page. A single page which will have them listed with a short teaser would be the best i guess. As for spacing and colors I'll stick to the logo and eye adjusted spaced.
ok, try not to go too radical on the redesign :)
some ppl actually prefer seeing all the information on one page rather then navigating back and forward to other pages, we should wait a little until we have more stuff before creating more index pages.
Ok, I'll think about a way to get them all in.
the color coding stuff looks pretty neat and generally color coding our stuff could improve layout and overview a lot.
So, the first "neat" version is done. Next will be some nice color.
THose spammers were annoying. Is it possible to harden the captcha? Or do they use china ppl for adding their spam and not bots?
Or we have to change the new wiki user policy :(
its likely human spammers.
We'll probably have to change to manual activation of wiki accounts by an admin upon request on the forum or irc channel.
Or we try to connect the forum accounts with the wiki. Maybe there is a plugin for that. Will have a look for.
Then we actually only have to delete the current ones. Maybe i could help with?
to be honest, I think that the account-per-request will work the best.
A small remark regarding the wiki page "LWJGL use in Maven":
I think you should both display the new and older ways to do it (before/after 2.8 ), since some people still need to work with LWJGL 2.7.X (the latest Slick release for instance seems not to work with 2.8).
Well, I found the old version of the page in the history, but others might not know about it!
Thanks

Latest Slick release does work with LWJGL 2.8, better to update Slick (or report it to them if it indeed is broken). Much easier solution then bothering with an older version of LWJGL.
I've been running Slick using LWJGL 2.8.4 for a while now, no problems at all here.
Hey,
I was looking to write a few extra tutorials for opengl, and wondering if i could get an account for the wiki.

Hey Matzon, image uploading is broken on the wiki. Some of the images on this wiki page are broken as well: http://wiki.lwjgl.org/wiki/Setting_Up_LWJGL_with_IntelliJ_IDEA
Furthermore, clicking on the pictures that work gives me a 404 by nginx O_o

Hi ra4king, thanks for the report.
I've fixed thumbnail generation and the image viewer. It was related to newer browsers having native support for responsive images ( srcset attribute ) which MediaWiki has not implented correctly. We should probably upgrade to the latest version and see if that restores the functionality. I had to disable responsive images for the time being.
I've also tested file uploading and it works fine. However, I did that after fixing the broken images problem so I don't know if it was related. Let me know if uploading is still broken for you.
Thanks again,
A.
Hey apostolos, thanks for the fix both the images and the file uploader work now. I have updated that article with new screenshots and clearer explanations.

Had to take it down because we suspected it was causing server problems.
We've now upgraded MediaWiki to the latest version and disabled file uploads. It's back up but we'll keep an eye on it.
