Title: Is FMOD really BSD compatible?
Post by: Notch on April 19, 2005, 16:06:52
The FMOD site says that it's not free for commercial projects. I would never had found that out unless I went looking at their site.

I thought that since LWJGL is BSD, I could use FMOD without any problems.

nope - you can use lwjgl without any problems...
likewise lwjgl isn't BSD compatable with OpenAL or DevIL - people still use it...

Only thing lwjgl has in common with oal & devil, is that it's free (as in $$) to use, whereas fmod costs money (if your product does too). FMOD is free to use in freeware programs.

But I can't make a game that uses the FMOD parts of LWJGL and charge for it, right?

Of course, you just have to pay for an FMOD license if you want to ship the FMOD dll.

Right, that's what I thought. Thanks. =)

You should probably stick a big warning about that somewhere. ;)
