Title: How will Oracle's ownership of Java affect LWJGL?
Post by: elias4444 on May 07, 2009, 16:39:47
This has been bugging me since hearing about Oracle buying Sun. I worked in IT for several years, and although Oracle was very devoted to it's server products, I can't imagine the company pushing desktop Java. I seem to remember that Sun had donated a Solaris box to the LWJGL group to help get it onto their platform, so there must be some communication that was happening. Are there any updates? Cas had said that he was recruited to help with JavaFX 2; are there any updates on that?

I imagine that I'm just one of many Java developers who are wondering the future of our favorite platform (LWJGL is included in that for me). Any answers or updates would be appreciated by anyone who knows something.

I was literally on the verge of signing a contract of employment when Sun froze all hires as it was wooed by IBM. I'm now unemployed and destitute :(

Cas :)

This doesn't sound too bad:

Sun wants to create a Java app-store. Sounds to me like they aren't cutting back on destop Java support. Then again it might be a pre-Oracle project that just hasn't received its cancellation, yet.

seems profitable, so even if it is pre-oracle I cant see them wanting to stop it.
