Title: LWJGL on Gaming Consoles/PDA's
Post by: paulcam on January 01, 2006, 10:24:54
I was wonderting which Gaming Consoles, cell-phones, PDA's, etc, LWJGL has been successfully used on.  I have used it successfully on Windows, and am planning to test it on Linux in the near future, but would like to use it on a portable device.

Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

None - we need to get behind the scenes with a manufacturer in order to get a native implementation for a particular phone.

Resurrecting an old thread.. just curious - any news on the consoles front?

Recently a publisher asked me if my future games could be ported to any of the latest consoles (XBLA, PSH etc.) I had to say "not yet" but perhaps if I told them I needed Java+LWJGL support they might pull some strings.

That'll be Slave Circus eh? Hehe :)

Still the same story: we're buggered on consoles, thanks to Sun's notoriously inept handling. We can work around the Java bit by compiling the entire game into a DLL with Jet and writing a console launching stub, but we have to wait for CaptainJester's DirectX stuff before we can even hope to get onto XBox.

Yep, it was them, Slave Circus.

So you tried to push Sun to get Java (officially) on any of the consoles? No reaction? I'd love to hear more.

Sun have just more or less completely dropped the ball on consoles. It's best just to forget about it.
